Rev up your resolutions

We are two weeks into the New Year – how is the progress on your resolutions? If you are like most people, you may be having doubts, thoughts that you bit off more than you could chew, or have given up. Well, today’s the day to recommit or revamp those goals. Remember, you can make changes beginning any day. Today is your day!

If your goal was to lose weight or eat better, a systematic detox may be a great place to start. What is the point of detoxifying? It can give your body a break from the “toxic” foods, help with elimination, fire up your metabolism and increase energy. By committing to changing your diet for 2-3 weeks, it can help stimulate fat loss, and encourage you to try healthy living that you can continue beyond the detox period.

The key to a successful detox is to identify your goal and your time commitment. Most detoxes include no processed foods, so consider the amount of time to prepare the majority of food you will eat. Planning ahead and always having some food with you is essential. Also consider your willingness to try new things, like new recipes with lots of vegetables! Trust me; all food can be with a good recipe. One more key to success is being realistic. A detox plan can help many people feel better, but we always start where we are. It is important to take things slowly, continue taking all prescribed medications, and consult with a doctor before starting.

If you are interested in jumpstarting your way to more healthy living, then a detox may be right for you. At Urology Northwest, we provide comprehensive naturopathic medical care, including individualized detox plans. We will review how you eat and live, your current health concerns and goals, why previous resolutions may have failed, as well as get you started on your way to a more healthy you!
